National Museum named after Andrey Sheptytskyi

Andrei Sheptytskyi National Museum (NML) in Lviv is an important cultural and artistic treasury that reflects the history of the artistic culture of Ukraine over the course of nine centuries. In particular, it has the world′s largest collection of Ukrainian sacred art of the 11th-18th centuries and more than 4,000 iconographic works.

The museum was founded in 1905 as a private foundation of the Metropolitan of Halytskyi Andrey Sheptytsky under the name "Church Museum". #34;. Under the leadership of the outstanding scientist I. Svientsitskyi (1905–1952), the museum developed rapidly and changed its name to the National Museum in Lviv. in 1911. In 1913, the ceremonial opening of the first exposition took place, during which the museum was handed over to the Ukrainian people.

In December 2005, the museum received the status of "national" and the name Osdonska was added.

Over time, the National Museum in Lviv became a leading institution in the field of culture and art of Western Ukraine, which unites outstanding figures of Ukrainian culture, art, science and politics . The museum publishes its own magazine " Annals of the National Museum in Lviv" and organizes a large number of exhibitions and other cultural and artistic events. The museum offers a permanent exhibition of "Ukrainian art of the 11th - beginning of the 20th century", which includes pearls of national and world art.

In addition, the NML houses art and memorial museums of outstanding Ukrainian artists, such such as Ivan Trush, Oleksa Novakivskyi, Olena Kulchytska, Leopold Levitskyi. Also, in the picturesque Sokal Region, there is the Sokal Region Art Museum, which is a department of the National Museum of Art.

Every year, the museum is visited by more than 150,000 spectators and is noted for its active role in the cultural and scientific life of Ukraine, organizing numerous exhibitions and scientific events.
